A primary concern to consumer product manufacturers is ensuring that
their products are safe in use and also in circumstances of
foreseeable misuse. For all consumer products, irritation, contact
sensitisation and allergy, should be avoided. The manufacturer will
try to achieve this by skilful formulation, but the potential for
these adverse effects should be checked in human volunteers. At

Efficacy and Claim Substantiation
Manufacturers use product efficacy and performance evaluation data to
assess the value and characteristics of their products. In addition,
current legislation and advertising standards require substantiating
data for many marketing claims. The type of evaluation performed, for
instance, whether the evaluation is subjective, objective,
instrumental or visual, depends on the class of product being tested,
and the potential use of the data.
